Ten Quid (Well, Fifteen) Well Spent: Why You Should Sign Up for a Mirfield Con Club Membership

Let's be honest, fifteen quid doesn't get you much these days. A round of two pints in Leeds, maybe. A takeaway that disappoints you. But at Mirfield Con Club? Fifteen pounds gets you a whole year of belonging to the best social spot in town. Don't believe us? Here's the case, made with typical club-keeper honesty.

1. Bar Prices That Won't Make You Wince

This is the big one. Members pay less at the bar — noticeably less. Over the course of a year, if you're in regularly (and you will be), that £15 membership pays for itself before the daffodils are out.

2. Members-Only Entertainment Nights

Our live music and cabaret nights are the stuff of local legend, and some of the best ones are for members only. First refusal on tickets, priority booking, and the smug satisfaction of watching the queue outside.

3. Snooker and Darts Leagues

Fancy yourself as the next Phil Taylor or a snooker player who's "just getting his eye in"? Membership gets you into our leagues and teams. Warning: the Tuesday night darts crowd take no prisoners, but they'll buy you a pint afterwards either way.

4. You'll Know Everyone at the Bar

There's a particular kind of comfort in walking into a room where people nod at you. Within a month of joining, you'll have your usual crowd, your usual table and at least one heated debate about whether Kirklees Council has filled in the potholes properly.

5. The Raffles Are Glorious

Our raffles are a club tradition — cheap tickets, decent prizes, and a caller who's been doing it so long he could announce the winner in his sleep. Members get first dibs, naturally.

6. Function Room Hire for the Big Occasions

Christenings, birthdays, retirements, wake — life has its milestones, and members get preferential rates on our function room. It's where half of Mirfield has celebrated something or other since 1958.

7. Charity Nights With Real Heart

When the club raises money for local causes, members are at the centre of it. There's something genuinely good about your membership fee supporting a place that gives back to Mirfield year after year.

8. Sport on a Proper Big Screen

Match days here are an event. Big screen, good company, and an atmosphere the pubs would envy. Plus, see point one — your pints cost less while you're shouting at the referee.

9. It's Cheaper Than Therapy

A bad week can be fixed, remarkably reliably, with an hour at the bar, a game of dominoes and someone telling you their week was worse. Modern science hasn't quite caught up with this, but we've known it since 1958.

10. Lapsed Members Welcome With Open Arms

Let your membership slip a few years ago? Nobody's keeping score. Pop back in, renew on the spot, and you'll be back in the fold before your first drink is poured. That's the beauty of a place like this — it's always been here, and it's always glad to see you.

Ready to Join?

Membership is £15 a year and you can sign up at the bar any time we're open. Bring a form of ID, bring a bit of patience while we fill in the paperwork, and bring yourself — because that's really the only essential bit.

See you at the bar.
