Ask anyone who's been coming to the Con Club for years what makes it special, and they won't say the decor. They'll talk about the nights. The regular, reliable, turn-up-every-week nights that give the week its shape. Here's our pick of the fixtures that keep the place buzzing — consider this your calendar starter pack.
1. Quiz Night — The Midweek Brain Workout
Our quiz has a loyal following who arrive armed with a pen, a pint and unearned confidence about 1970s football. Questions span general knowledge, music and a picture round that's harder than it looks. Teams of up to six, and if you turn up on your own, you'll be adopted by a team before the first question. It's practically club law.
2. Bingo — Eyes Down, Voices Up
Thursday bingo is an institution. It's louder than you'd expect, funnier than you'd believe, and the good-natured moaning when someone wins on the last number is part of the experience. All ages welcome — genuinely, we get grandchildren and grandparents at the same table.
3. Live Band Saturdays — The Main Event
When a proper band rolls in, the concert room comes alive. Sixties and seventies tributes, soul, rock and roll — the floor fills and stays filled. If you only try one regular night, make it this one.
4. Solo Singers on Fridays — The Club Classic
The vocal entertainer is the beating heart of clubland, and our Friday singers do it properly: two sets, all the classics, requests taken. It's the perfect low-stakes night out — a drink, a singalong, home by half eleven.
5. Soul and Motown Evenings — For the Dancers
Every so often we run dedicated soul nights, and they draw a crowd from well beyond Mirfield. Northern Soul, Motown, proper dancing. If you've got moves, this is where they come out.
6. Themed Party Nights — Bowie, ABBA and Beyond
From Bowie tributes to ABBA extravaganzas, our themed nights are the ones people book tables for. Fancy dress optional but enthusiastically encouraged. The sight of forty-somethings in glitter platforms singing 'Waterloo' is not to be missed.
7. Sunday Afternoon Sessions — The Quiet One
For those who like their entertainment before the tea's on, our Sunday afternoon slots bring in gentler acts — easy listening, a bit of country, a very relaxed atmosphere. Perfect if the evenings don't suit you.
So What's On This Month?
The line-up shifts week to week, so the best places to check are our website listings, the noticeboard by the bar, and our Facebook page. Better still, ask behind the bar — the staff know exactly what's coming up and will happily point you towards your kind of night.
Whatever your flavour — brains, bingo, or Bowie — there's a regular slot with your name on it. Pick one, come along, and become one of the regulars you'll eventually be welcoming yourself.
